Have A Blast!
We are pleased to confirm that the projected outing to a Laser Quest event organised by Rebel Adventures near Clonakilty has been fixed for Bank Holiday Monday, the 7th May 2012, commencing at 11.00 am SHARP.
It is a 90 minute session for children from aged 8 upwards. The numbers will be limited to 20, and adults and/or siblings may take part as long as no child with ASD is excluded.
No decision has yet been made as to the extent to which this event will be subsidised, but the cost of €25 per head will be heavily subsidised by AWC, and I would expect the actual cost for participants will be in the region of €5 per head. Actual cost will be notified as soon as it is decided.
In the meantime, so that Rebel Adventures can have an idea of overall numbers, please could you e-mail me as soon as possible to let me know whether your child/children (and how many, if more than 1 is coming) are intending to come along. My e-mail address is ten.mocrienull@nedrowmot.
Finally, could we also ask all of you who receive this to communicate its contents to any parents of children with ASD who you think may not have computer access.
More information from the Laser Quest website.
Jacobs Bar
A massive thank you goes to the staff at Jacobs Bar in Baltimore.
After some of the staff helped us out collecting in Skibbereen on Saturday all the staff got together in the evening and donated all their tips for the night to Autism West Cork. So
Thank You Jacobs Bar!!
Surf2Heal 2011
The Surf2Heal camp for West Cork was again held at Inchydonney this year during the first week of July. Many thanks are again due to Patricia Griffin at Co-Action for organizing the event and to all the volunteers for their time and effort spent both in and out of the water.

Celebrations at Surf2Heal 2011
The week was rounded off nicely with an after camp party and awards ceremony for the children.
Thank You Skibbereen
We had another very successful day fund raising in Skibbereen yesterday. Many thanks go to all the volunteers who helped collect and to all the very generous folk who helped to make the day such a great success.
A special thank you goes to the staff from Jacobs Bar in Baltimore who pitched up on the day and helped with the collections. Thank you.
A Trip To The Cinema
Saturday, 16th July, saw our first children’s event of the summer, a trip to the cinema.
Autism West Cork hired the entire Park Cinema in Clonakilty for the sole use of our members and were able to show a selection of films to suit all tastes:
- Kung Fu Panda II
- Diary Of A Wimp Kid II
- Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows II
In total we had 37 attendees (including parents/assistants) and people agreed it was a lovely relaxed atmosphere without the usual crowds and queues to be found at a cinema. Personally I was delighted to get to see the Harry Potter movie with less than 10 other people at the screening!
Many thanks must go to Dan O’Callaghan, the manager at the Park, and all his staff for opening the cinema early for us and being so accommodating.
Welcome To Autism West Cork
