About Us
Our Mission
The mission of Autism West Cork is to provide support, services, opportunities and activities for children with ASD and their families. To raise awareness of ASD, to lobby for adequate services and to engage in fund raising to achieve our goals.
Our Vision
The vision of Autism West Cork is to have a regular programs of activities for the children whilst providing regular meetings, lobbying and education for parents. We will provide niche services that are beyond the scope of the local service provider and aim to have all diagnosis completed within 6 months of a child being presented. We will have a fund established to provide equipment for ASD children in need and we will be a household name in West Cork.
Our History
Following the formation of the ASD team under Co-Action to provide diagnosis and interventions for children on the autistic spectrum in West Cork the team formed a parents support group.
Initially led by the Co-Action team, in May 2009 the group formed it’s own team in order to take the responsibility for leading the group off Co-Action’s shoulders. This website was created to help the parents group stay in touch and to provide a useful source of information.
We campaign for improved services for our children and organize events specially tailored to our children’s needs. We also provide a support network to help each other with the challenges of raising a child on the autistic spectrum.
Whilst this part of the site is freely available to anyone to use, the forum is restricted to families who have children with autism and who are registered with the Co-Action team in West Cork. The reasons for this restriction are mainly:
- To focus that part of the site on the needs of the parents in West Cork.
- To respect the privacy of the parents in the support group.
- To reduce the work load of the forum moderators.
